Gendermolen.nl ('the gender mill') describes the Dutch transgender care pathway in the order in which people go through it. In Dutch, being 'in the mill' means having entered a process with a momentum of its own: the referral leads to the waiting list, the waiting list to the intake, the intake to treatment. For each station the site shows what happens, what is known, what remains uncertain and where you can pause or step out.
What you will find on gendermolen.nl
- Referral and waiting list: the referral route, the providers and what happens while waiting
- Intake and assessment: how gender dysphoria is diagnosed, affirmative versus exploratory approaches and consent for minors
- Blockers and hormones: how they work, what is reversible and why almost everyone moves on to the next step
- Surgery: procedures, requirements and the consequences for fertility
- Out of the mill: aftercare, stopping, detransition and regret
Every article ends with a sources block. The tone is sober and critically investigative about rapid medical steps in minors, with respect for the people concerned. The site is in Dutch.
